The Exhibition Design Institute at the Hochschule Düsseldorf (HSD) invites this year for the third Werkkonferenz to Düsseldorf. From 29. till 31. Oktober 2015 international guests and HDS Alumni will focus on exploring “New Tools” in design and architecture. For these few days HSD provides an exciting platform with lectures, workshops and exhibitions across various disciplines.
Digital Timber [Agata Kycia with prof. Moritz Fleischmann, PBSA] is a workshop on virtual design inspired by origami, the fascinating art of folding paper. We will focus on production of folded plates on a larger scale and its challenges.
This prototyping workshop experiments with CNC-aided design and manufacturing of parametric folded structure made out of wood using Grasshoper and WoodWop. It introduces basic tools and techniques for simulating digital folds, generating parametric variations and data transfer to a CNC machine.
